ABOUT US
Who are we?
STELA is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to support the academic and socioeconomic development of the members of the Andean communities of Peru. We are currently working on improving the quality of education of children, adolescents, and young people who live in the district of Santa Teresa, Province of the Convention, from the Department of Cusco, Peru, by implementing free after-school tutoring programs, including virtual classrooms with volunteer tutors from the United States of America.
Why are we here?
Our work as an organization started in the year 2018 after a family dinner during which a small but thoughtful idea was born, to create an ESL program for children that could benefit from it in Peru. We started with a group of five children located in the District of Santa Teresa, La convention, Cusco, Peru. We implemented a virtual weekend English as a second language program to motivate children to learn more about the world.
All the work we do is for the future of the children that think they can't do better and also those who want to be better. The people in our organization all share a common mission, to provide children in need the resources to achieve their professional goals. We want to help them find their version of success & we hope you do too!
Who inspired Stela Group?
We named our organizatiion after Estela Carrión de Sánchez. She was a hard-working woman that gave her life to her community. She is our mother, and we owe her our desire to help others. She built a culture of love, kindness, selflessness, transparency, and true philantropy that we aim to maintain as our core values in everything we do. Nowadays, we honor her memory working towards the community she loved and cherished in life.
Our Programs
Study Buddy:
Aprendiendo Juntos
Our free after-school tutoring program that supports the academic development of primary school children of the District of Santa Teresa, La Convencion, Cusco, Peru and surrounding communities with the help of our high school level volunteer tutors.
Our primary mission is to provide these children the support necessary to build a successful foundation for the years to come.
Bridges:
Familias Unidas
Free enrichment seminars with diverse topics taught by experienced professionals made available to parents and children located in Santa Teresa, La Convencion, Cusco, Peru and surrounding communities.
A tool for families to learn how to better work together to improve family ties as well as providing parents with adequate information to aid the professional development of their children.
Conectanding
A partnership program developed to connect volunteer high school level tutors from Santa Teresa, La Convencion, Cusco, Peru to College level mentors in the USA, opening the door for our tutors to the rest of the world through technology & giving them first-hand experience working with people from different backgrounds and the opportunity to learn English as a Second Language.
